HRH attends service to celebrate 1,000 years of the Shire of Gloucester

Features, Events Add comments

His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester will be attending a special service at Gloucester Cathedral this Sunday to mark the 1000th birthday of the county.

The Duke of Gloucester is Patron of Gloucestershire 1000 and will be honouring the county-wide celebrations of Gloucestershire’s 1000th year by attending the celebratory service – one of the main events planned for the millennium year.

The service, being held on 14th October, includes a number of readings about key people from the county’s past. The readings give thanks for the inspiring people who challenged the course of our working, cultural, spiritual and natural lives. The celebration will also include hymns and anthems that have a Gloucestershire link.

Invitations have been sent to a wide selection of representatives from different faiths, community groups and volunteer organisations, local councils and the military, with a number being made available to members of the public.

The cathedral celebration will follow the first review by HRH The Duke of Gloucester of The Gloucestershire Army Cadet force under their new badge of the Rifles, which will take place at RAF Innsworth earlier in the day.

After the cathedral celebration the ACF Corps of Drums under the direction of Drum Major Andy Casey will play for His Royal Highness on College Green.

The service begins at 3pm on Sunday 14th October.
