Cotswolds MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown today spoke with optimism about the future of the Post Office branches at Stratton and The Beeches which had been earmarked for closure.

Mr Clifton-Brown who has sent twelve detailed submissions regarding each of the affected Post Office branches was commenting today after recent discussions with Postwatch.

The MP said “Postwatch are very unhappy about the closure of the Stratton and Beeches branches, particularly now it has emerged that the Crown Post Office, currently in Castle Street Cirencester, may now move into W H Smith”

“In my submissions for these two branches I highlighted how ill equipped the Crown Post Office was for the new trade that would occur post closures. The decision to move into W H Smith would exacerbate the problems I have clearly highlighted still further”
“A succesfull resolution to these matters will not see the end of my campaigning, there are ten other branches scheduled for closure or outreach and I am determined to see a satisfactory resolution for all affected residents”

Post Office has yet to make an official statement on the matter, but Mr Clifton-Brown said he was hoping Postwatch would use their statutory powers to ask Post Office Ltd to reconsider the closures.

On hearing the good news Councillor John Burgess (Cirencester - Beeches Ward) said “this is the first bit of good news we have had about our Post Offices in months. I hope that common sense will prevail when Post Office Ltd make their final decision”
