Saturday 3rd May 04.00-04.30 Manor Farm, Bourton-on-the-Hill, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire GL56 9AQ.
Ornithologist Arthur Ball will identify bird song at a beautiful site in the Cotswolds
Robin Dale was born at Bourton-on-the-Hill and took over Manor Farm -the family farm- in 1984 and at the same time took the tenancy of Bank Farm at nearby Aston Magna.
Robin offers Cotswold Farm Walks as part of the DEFRA Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) Conservation Scheme.
Robin will take you around the Cotswold countryside and you will learn about the farm, local history, wild life, wild birds and wild flowers from the farmer who has been working this land for over 60 years. The walk will be taken at a gentle pace but stout footwear is recommended.
“A Dawn Chorus” walk is a special event and Robin has arranged for his friend, ornithologist Arthur Ball, to identify bird song at this beautiful Cotswold site.
A RSPB search at Manor Farm identified the following birds on Red High Conservation list:- Barn Owl, Lapwing, Skylark, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Linnet, Yellow Hammer and Goldcrest.
On their Green List they identified:-Mistle Thrush, Willow Warbler, Green Woodpecker, Swallow, House Martin, Fieldfare, Dunnock, Hedge Sparrow, Redstart, Kestrel and Stock Dove.
The Telegraph Weekend recently published an article about the Dawn Chorus - Strike up the Garden Orchestra. “It’s an ever present feature of spring and summer mornings but many people are only aware of the dawn chorus through insomnia or a chance encounter during an early start. Very few of us set the alarm to listen to one of the musical wonders of the natural world.” So here is your chance to do just that!
To do this walk you need to be up early in the morning and get to Manor Farm at 04.00 - 04.30. You will be met with Tea and Coffee and a Bacon/Sausage bap will be served when the walk is finished at 07.00-07.30.
The cost is £10.00 per ticket and the walk is limited to 30 people.
