September is just around the corner and that means the Moreton-in-Marsh Show. The Show is a traditional one day Agricultural and Horse Show and the leading agricultural event in Gloucestershire. It is held in Moreton-in-the-Marsh in the North Cotswolds on the first Saturday in September each year.

Moreton ShowThe site is an old permanent pasture in a parkland setting. There are no permanent show buildings which means the Show is built up in the traditional way with marquees and hurdle pens giving a true country show atmosphere.

The 2008 Moreton-in-Marsh Show will feature horses, ponies, cattle, including the National Show of Poll Hereford Cattle, sheep, including the National Show of Cotswold Sheep and other Rare Breeds, Goats, Poultry, Dogs, Food Retail and Home and Garden Marquees, hundreds of trade stands and a full day’s entertainment.

New plans for 2008 include a new Countryside area, which will include demonstrations of  traditional skills including a Stone Walling demonstration from the Royal Agricultural College, demonstrations from the National Hedgelaying Society as well as insights into Brewing, Thatching and Tiling.

The Land Rover experience will give visitors an experience of being driven in a Land Rover and can watch a parade of vintage and specialist Land Rovers.

For the first time there will also be classes for foxhounds and beagles and visitors will be able to admire the hounds on display. Visitors can also learn what to look for in a healthy dog. Information will be available to highlight what you should check for when getting a dog and you can ask questions about dog keeping.

For the first time in a quarter of a century the Home and Garden Category will include six honey competition classes to meet the growing public interest in natural food. Shipston-on-Stour and North Cotswolds Beekeepers Association will be having stalls at which their members will sell honey produced by their hives.

There will also be the old favourites such as Terrier Racing and Thelwell Ponies and the popular Titan the Robot will also be making appearances throughout the day.

Put the date in your diary and go along to the Show - it is a great day out in the country.
