The anxious wait for Gloucestershire secondary school places

The anxious wait for news of secondary school places is almost over for pupils and parents.

On Monday 3rd March, parents of pupils transferring to secondary school in September 2008 will receive an allocation letter from Gloucestershire County Council. Cotswold motion attacks plans to axe Post Offices

The Government’s consultation process over Post Office closures is ‘nothing more than a pre-determined sham’, Cotswold District Council said today.

A meeting of full Council passed a unanimous motion expressing its total opposition to plans to cut 27 Post Offices in Gloucestershire, including 12 in the Cotswolds. Read the rest of this entry »

Cotswold District Council sets Council Tax increase at 3.5%

Cotswold District Council today set its Council Tax for the coming financial year. A meeting of full Council agreed to add £4.64 to its share of the annual average bill (Band D), a 3.5% increase.

Gloucestershire County Council has increased its Council Tax by 4.9%, or £48.35 per year for a Band D property, while the Gloucestershire Police Authority has increased its bill by £8.96 (4.99%).

Changes to Gloucestershire day care services

People in Gloucestershire who use day care services will now be given more independence and control over how they spend their time.

This is in line with Gloucestershire County Council’s review of its day care services, with services now moving away from the traditional day centre setting and instead being provided within local communities. The aim is to give clients more control. To achieve this, the council is making more use of Direct Payments to allow people who currently use day care facilities to control their own money and spend it on the services they want.

‘City Break’ is a selection of photos from Mick Maslen, a lecturer in Painting and Drawing at the University of Gloucestershire, who has captured on film the sights of his brief breaks in Europe, Africa and America.

Cotswold gardeners urged to sign up for green waste service

Don’t let the grass grow under your feet! That is the message being given to gardeners by Cotswold District Council ahead of the new waste and recycling collection service.

The Council’s current free fortnightly collection of garden waste will stop in April when new weekly collection arrangements are introduced across the whole of the District.

448 and counting – Cotswolds Marathon Man completes another race

Cotswolds based Steve Edwards ran his 448 marathon last Sunday – 17th February – in a time of 3 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds and that is one more race and one more very good time towards his world record challenge of 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes.
