Businesses will be boosted thanks to a £6,500 grant awarded to Cotswold District Council to help improve health and safety in workplaces.
The funding – which has come from the Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust – will be used to help the Council’s Food and Safety team to deliver important messages to businesses to safeguard the health of employees across the Cotswolds. Read the rest of this article »

Firefighters have come to the rescue of Cotswold fitness instructors – by providing the perfect venue for a weekly Tai Chi class.
Cotswold District Council’s Active and Able Team couldn’t find a suitable location for their classes in Tetbury – until Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service offered a solution. Now around 15 older people keep active each Wednesday at their Tai Chi session at the town’s New Church Street fire station. Read the rest of this article »

Cotswolds based Steve Edwards completed Marathon number 451 on Sunday April 6th.
Steve only had to go to Taunton, Somerset this time, to complete marathon number 451 in his bid for a world record of running 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes. Only 49 more races to go! The Flora London Marathon is next on the list.

Steve Edwards from Moreton-in-Marsh ran his 449 marathon last Sunday 9th March in a time of 3 hours 13 minutes and 26 seconds and that is another fine time and another race under his belt towards his world record challenge of running 500 marathons by 2012 in an average time of under 3 hours 20 minutes. Young flood victims are to get a boost in the shape of £15,000 worth of free sports coaching, thanks to Cotswold District Council.
Youth Sport Development Officer Scott Burry made a successful application for half of the money to Gloucestershire County Council’s Flood Recovery Grant fund for children and young people. Chipping Campden and district mens keep fit club have taken over the facilities at Chipping Campden School and more recently the sports centre every Monday evening for nearly thirty years. Cotswold Leisure Cirencester opened its doors over the weekend as people of all ages flooded back.
Closed since July last year after the floods, the centre opened with a fun filled weekend of activities that included go karts, bouncy castles, roller skating and multi-sports coaching for the children, to a rowing challenge in the gym, and several fitness classes - including a new Body Training System class - for the adults. People in Gloucestershire who use day care services will now be given more independence and control over how they spend their time.
This is in line with Gloucestershire County Council’s review of its day care services, with services now moving away from the traditional day centre setting and instead being provided within local communities. The aim is to give clients more control. To achieve this, the council is making more use of Direct Payments to allow people who currently use day care facilities to control their own money and spend it on the services they want.

Cotswold Leisure Bourton will do its bit for charity next month when it hosts the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile.
Manager Jo Whitfield is calling runners of all abilities to come along to centre, in Station Road, to take part in a sponsored one, three or six-mile charity run on Sunday March 16th.
